2018 Toyota Highlander Review
The Toyota Highlander is a solid SUV with an upscale interior, powerful performance and comfortable ride. But is it right for your drives around Lowell, Dracut and Tewksbury?
To help answer that question, we at Ira Toyota of Tewksbury offer this 2018 Toyota Highlander review. Discover the characteristics of this SUV and call us with your questions.
The 2018 Toyota Highlander comes standard with a 2.7L 4-cylinder engine that puts out 185 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
If you crave additional power, decide on the available 3.5L V6 engine. This one delivers 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a Direct Shift 8-speed automatic transmission to help give you more control.
It also has a Stop and Start Engine System. When you completely stop, the technology will shut the engine off. Upon releasing the brake pedal, the system will seamlessly restart the engine.
Front-wheel drive is standard on the Toyota Highlander, but you can also take advantage of the upgrade to the Dynamic Torque-Control All-Wheel Drive system which distributes engine power from the front to the rear. It’ll also control the way the Highlander brakes from side to side. Overall, you’ll have better stability on less-than-favorable roads.
Amenities & Interior
The Toyota Highlander can seat seven or eight people according to the configuration you choose. If you opt for the available second-row captain’s chairs, then the seating will be for seven. Or, stick with the standard second-row bench to have the car seat eight.
The vehicle comes with quality materials, like cloth seats and a soft-touch upper door trim with metallic accent. Available comfort features include leather-trimmed heated and ventilated seats with perforations, along with a heated steering wheel wrapped in leather.
Furthermore, there’s an available 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with power thigh and lumbar support, so you can get in that perfect position behind the wheel.
There’s also an available panoramic moonroof. This opens up the cabin, allowing fresh air and natural sunshine to come in.
Standard Safety Options
The Toyota Highlander is an SUV that keeps safety at the top of your mind. That’s why it comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense™ P. This suite of driver-assisting technologies was designed to alert you to dangers missed while driving.
Some features included in this suite are:
- Dynamic Radar Cruise Control: Lets you drive at a specific speed, as well as a certain distance from the car ahead of you. Even if traffic slows down, the system will maintain that preset distance.
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist: Detects departure from your lane on roads that are clearly marked. Drifting from your lane without using a turn signal will result in an audible and visual warning. If you don’t react, the system may correct your steering to get you back to the center of the lane.
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection: Detects cars and pedestrians through an in-vehicle camera and radar. If a frontal collision is likely, you’ll hear and see an alert. If you don’t react in time, the system can automatically apply the brakes.
